Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Embarks On A “Buy
Local” Campaign To Help Boost Local Business
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 13,
2010
(Moncks Corner, SC) Soon, the doors of local
businesses will be proudly displaying the Berkeley Chamber of
Commerce’s “Buy Local” sticker, encouraging citizens to spend money in
their local communities. Although Berkeley County seems to be
holding its own, now, more than ever, it is important to keep as much
money as possible exchanging hands in our local area to support local
businesses and ensure our continued economic stability.
“It’s an economic stimulus of sorts,” says
Berkeley Chamber of Commerce CEO Elaine Morgan, “Numerous studies have
been conducted and through these studies we can conclude that every
dollar spent at a locally owned business generates two to three times
economic benefit.”
In the age of the internet, many consumers are
also turning to online sources to purchase products. According to
Morgan, the benefit of “Buying Local” is seen not only in income, but
in jobs and local tax revenues.
Kevin Housand, owner of Central True Value
Hardware in Moncks Corner, points out numerous benefits to consumers
who continue to choose to “Buy Local”:
- “Consumer perception is that any locally-owned
business is higher priced. The reality is that every business in
business has to be competitive. An attentive shopper will discover that
locally-owned companies are very price competitive.”
- “Owners/managers of locally-owned companies are
in close contact with their customers, often knowing them by name, and
are generally very responsive to any consumer need or concern.
Consumers have a voice with these owners, direct access to the decision
maker.”
- “Locally-owned companies tend to source
products and services locally, supporting local economies. Local
company owners are famous for doing business with those who do business
with them. They also provide employment opportunities for the
community, which again puts dollars back into the local economy.”
- “Locally-owned companies provide
proportionately stronger community support than other companies. Go to
the local ball field and read company names on the sponsorship signage.”
- “Lastly, local businesses typically offer a
level of product or service knowledge and expertise that isn't easily
found elsewhere, the benefit of which can translate into time and money
savings for the customer.”
The Chamber will be distributing “Buy Local”
stickers to member businesses in Berkeley County . Any Berkeley County
business wishing to post a sticker at their business can contact the
Chamber at (843) 761-8238.
The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce is the leading
voice of business and tourism in Berkeley County. Progressive
industries; world renowned natural beauty; historical landmarks; lakes
and rivers; and vibrant recreation mixed with shopping and locations
which have been the back drop for major motion pictures all make
Berkeley County a center for “the good life”.
